Add categories for papers
... and a way to specifically search for them.
I suggest the following categories (just some examples):
BA seminar paper, MA seminar paper, thesis, article (magazine, etc.), other scholarly paper, dissertation, review, manuscript, presentation, etc.I strongly believe that this is necessary to become successful with students and people involved in academia

Hey, thanks for the idea.
We actually have that, but we wanted to keep it pretty narrow, as to not overwhelm the users with too many options.
The current options are: Abstract, Article, Assignment, Book, Cheatsheet, Exam, Lecture Notes, Presentation, Research, TermsI hope this helps :)

let's say i study geography,
so i want to get an email whenever there's a new paper in geography from my college.

Make a batch upload capability
Uploading and labeling 15 different PDFs is a chore, if I could title my collection "MIT OpenCourseWare Cell Biology 2007 Lectures" and just throw all of the PDFs into that category and label them once, it would save me a lot of work and motivate me to upload more files. You could keep the file limitation by only allowing so many files per folder, that way if necessary, users could split folders into "first two weeks" or the like. I know that mostly single papers are available here, but it would make full sets much easier to work with if… more

Thanks for the feedback! We hope we can add this feature as soon as possible, it’s a really good idea.
We have something similar right now, but we still want to improve it: you can upload, suppose, 15 papers in one batch (select them with the mouse or use the Control button), and add categories to the first one. You can click on the next papers “Same details as above”. I know it’s not the comfiest way, but we promise to work on that soon.Thanks again!

Allow direct download of PDF from course view
I like to view PDFs using the viewer on my computer. Sometimes I just want to download them for further reading. I suggest that the PDF icon near each document in a course view will be a direct link to the PDF to download.

Random paper function
A button that gives you a random paper seems like it would be a very interesting function.

fix search on Chrome on Windows
When I search using Chrome browser on Windows 7, I get no results. Works in Firefox. So perhaps something about the browser? Please fix. The site is great :)

Make the home page easier to take in, less chaotic.
Rethink all the different features on the home page and then organise better so that someone looking at the page for the first time can follow more easily/know where to start. Its a little busy.
